NS 1717 Protection against contamination of drinking water in drinking water installations and general requirements for equipment to prevent contamination by backflow

Problem In certain cases, contaminated water or other liquids can flow from a tap back into the internal piping system in the building, or out into the public water supply system.

Functional requirements The water tap for subscribers must be secured so that water or other liquids cannot flow back, either to the property’s internal piping system or to the waterworks’ piping system.
